Platinum-Rhodium Assembly Thermocouple
For construction comparison, see our Sheathed vs Assembly Thermocouple guide, or use our Thermocouple Types Selection Guide to compare different thermocouple types.
Platinum-Rhodium Thermocouple Types
- S-Type (PtRh10-Pt): Suitable for general high-temperature furnaces and kilns, with recommended long-term operation up to about 1300°C.
- R-Type (PtRh13-Pt): Provides good stability for high-temperature industrial furnace applications, with recommended long-term operation up to about 1400°C.
- B-Type (PtRh30-PtRh6): Designed for very high-temperature processes, with recommended long-term operation up to about 1500°C.
For other thermocouple constructions and temperature ranges, see our Industrial Thermocouples range.

Actual operating temperature depends on thermocouple type, ceramic protection tube, atmosphere, installation conditions, and measurement environment.
Installation
- Install the threaded or flange mounting assembly on the furnace or equipment connection.
- Insert the ceramic protection tube to the required measurement position.
- Connect the dedicated S-Type, R-Type, or B-Type wiring to a compatible temperature instrument.
- Select a suitable probe length to keep the junction box away from excessive heat.
- Handle the alumina ceramic protection tube carefully to avoid impact or sudden mechanical stress.
The probe insertion depth is fixed during manufacturing and is not field adjustable.
